Howlite Rosary Summary

It's been quite a while since I used howlite. It's a white bead with gray veins throughout. Both the Ave (Hail Mary) and Pater (Our Father) beads are 8 mm round howlite beads. The spacers are 3 mm "crystal" faceted Czech glass. The accent beads around the Paters are 4 mm "metallic periwinkle" faceted Czech glass on either side of a 4 mm round howlite bead.

The centerpiece depicts the prodigal son as he returns to his father and falls to his knees asking forgiveness. On the back of the center is a dove representing the Holy Spirit with rays emanating from it. Above it is written "Veni Creator Spiritus" (Latin for "Come, Creator Spirit").

The pewter crucifix is the San Damiano crucifix (sometimes called the Saint Francis crucifix). Saint Francis of Assisi was gazing upon a crucifix in the church at San Damiano when he received his commission from God to rebuild His church. That crucifix currently hangs in Saint Clare Church in Assisi. On the back of the rosary crucifix is written "Assisi" at the top and "Italy" on the right. The following scripture is written: "Benedicat tibi Dominus et custodiat te. Ostendat faciem Suam tibi et misereatur tui. Convertat vultum Suum ad te et det tibi pacem. Dominus benedica Te." It is the Latin for a verse from Numbers 6:24-27. "The Lord bless thee, and keep thee. The Lord shew his face to thee, and have mercy on thee. The Lord turn his countenance to thee, and give thee peace."

The overall length of the rosary is 21 1/2 inches (52 cm).
